16 Taliban killed, 8 injured in fresh security operations

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Sixteen Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and eight others wounded as a result of separate incidents of violence in different parts of the country, officials said on Thursday.

Nangarhar police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces targeted an insurgent hideout in the Mia Sahib locality of Hesarak district late on Wednesday.

He said eight Taliban, including a notorious commander, were killed in the overnight raid. A pick-up, two motorbikes and some weapons were also seized by security forces.

The militant hideout was eradicated and four suspected militants detained during the operation, Mashriqiwal concluded.

Elsewhere, the Taliban stormed an Afghan Local Police (ALP) check-post in the Kanjak area of the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of northern Kunduz province.

In the ensuing fire exchange, two assailants and an ALP member were killed and four militants and five security personnel wounded, the governor’s office said.

On the other hand, 12 villages were cleared of fighters during an ongoing operation in the Nijrab district of central Kapisa province, police spokesman Mohammad Ayub Yousafzai said.

Six militants and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were killed and four fighters and five soldiers wounded, he said.

Shah Agha, a resident of the area, confirmed to Pajhwok that the Taliban insurgents had escaped to Tagab and Ala Sai districts.
