ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Forty couples tied the knot at a mass marriage ceremony arranged by a welfare organization and traders in the capital of southwestern Nimroz province on Saturday.

At the ceremony held at a private wedding hall in Zaranj, the provincial governor, relatives and friends of the couples were in attendance.

Faqir Ahmad, one of the organizers of the mass marriage, said they arranged the mass wedding ceremony in cooperation with welfare organizations --- Habib Yar and Anardara Foundation.

The ceremony cost $100,000 and each couple was allowed to invite their 60 relatives and friends, with the number of guests reaching 3,000.

Governor Eng. Mohammad Sami called the mass marriage “a nice act” and added Islam also instructed Muslims to avoid unnecessary spending on marriages.

The Appellant Court head also hailed the event and called it encouraging. He also shared information regarding contemporary wedding laws and Islamic values.

Provincial Council Members Haji Massoud Hakimi asked other national businessmen to come forward and help arrange marriages for those who could not afford the costs themselves.

It was the third such ceremony taking place in Nimroz. Zalmai, one of the grooms, thanked the Habibyar Welfare Foundation and other businessmen for helping youngsters to arrange their marriages.
