KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): At least five Pakistani soldiers have been killed and one captured alive during a clash with Afghan forces in southeastern Khost province.

A statement from the governor’s house said on Monday the border skirmish erupted on Sunday morning when Pakistani soldiers tried to establish a check-post on Afghan soil.

The statement added five Pakistani security personnel were killed and a sixth caught alive by residents and Afghan forces. The Afghan side also seized weapons and equipment.

Meanwhile, a Pakistaninfo-icon military spokesman said two of its border guards were killed and five others wounded during a clash with Afghan soldiers in Kurram region.

On the other hand, the governor’s house said two residents were also killed. However, details about those injured were not given. A public representative, Janmir Zazai, said eight civilians were wounded.

He told Pajhwok the Afghan government wanted to have good relations with all neighbouring countries in line with international law and had no intention of aggression, but would react strongly to aggressive designs.

Accompanied by the provincial intelligence director and other officials, the governor arrived in Zazai Maidan district soon after the attack by Pakistani forces.

Governor Hukam Khan Habibi met commanders of several border check-posts and promised timely supply of ammunition and equipment.

Habibi also ordered the distribution of essential food and non-food items to the families and residents who stood shoulder to shoulder with their security forces against Pakistani militias.

The delegation also attended the funeral ceremony for those martyred in the clash with Pakistan forces.
