Protestors block road over civilian casualties

Apr 17, 2018 - 16:21

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Some residents of Baghlan-i-Markazi district have blocked the Baghlan-Kunduz highway for traffic to protest the killing of a man and injuries to two others, an official said on Tuesday.

The residents of Chaharshanba locality claimed a local youth was killed and two others were injured in retaliatory fire by bodyguards of public representative Qudratullah Zaki, who was attacked on Monday afternoon in the area by Talibaninfo-icon.

Javed, a resident of the locality, said civilian suffered casualties in gunfire from Zaki’s bodyguards. “The incident irked the residents and they blocked the Baghlan-Kunduz highway.”

But Col. Zabihullah Ghorzang, commander of Public Order Police, said it was yet to be ascertained whether civilians or Taliban had suffered casualties in firing from Zaki’s bodyguards.

“The protesting people have demanded that Provincial Council member should meet them and hear their demands,” said Ghorzang.

Zaki said there were no civilian homes in Chaharshanba. “The Taliban attacked us and we also returned gunfire.” He demanded an impartial investigation into Monday’s attack on him.
