Protestors want Sar-i-Pul police chief fired

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): A number of protestors on Tuesday accused the Sar-i-Pul province police chief of mismanagement and demanded his immediate sacking.

About 200 people staged a protest, chanted: “We want security,” “we demand a professional police chief to ensure stability in our province”.

Public representative Raza Alamzada, speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, alleged Brig. Gen. Khalilullah Dastyar’s poor management had resulted in the fall of many security check-posts in Sancharak district and provincial capital.

He said Dastyar was an elderly man who was unable to control the prevailing security situation. He urged the government to appoint a young and dynamic police chief in his place.

Provincial Council Chairman Mohammad Noor Roohani and some other members also took part in the demonstration and expressed similar views.

In response, the police chief said around 50 protestors had been instigated by the people whose illegal demands had not been accepted.

He neither explained the illicit demands nor exposed the people behind the protest. The police denied the fall of any security post to the Talibaninfo-icon. The protest should be probed in line with the law, he concluded.
