JALALABAD (Pajhwok): University teachers, students and police on Thursday donated blood for those in need in eastern Nangarhar province.

The blood was collected from police, students and teachers on the Nangarhar University campus in Jalalabad, the provincial capital. The organizers said they planned to extend the drive to common people.

Nangarhar police chief Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi told Pajhowk Afghan News that the blood donation aimed at saving injured security forces and civilians.

He said mostly injured people lost their lives due to a lack of blood and today’s blood donation was aimed at saving previous lives.

Ahmadullah, a police officer who donated 500cc blood, said he wanted to save compatriots and called on other police officers and ordinary people to do so.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students and teachers of Nangarhar University also donated blood under the slogan “Donate blood, Don’t shed blood).

Babrak Miakhel, the Nangarhar University chancellor, said students donated their blood on their own free will. Around three hundred students donated blood.
