Afghan, Pakistani & Chinese FMs to meet in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Kabul is expected to host a trilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Afghanistaninfo-icon, China and Pakistaninfo-icon, the National Security Council (NSC) said on Saturday.

A statement from NSC said National Security Advisor (NSA) Hanif Atmar, during a visit to China, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Both sides discussed the need for boosting bilateral relations and cooperation.

Considering the ongoing situation in the region, the need for peace and stabilityhad become more urgent and China could play an effective role a powerful political actor, Atmar was quoted as saying.

He stressed the need for continued cooperation between the two countries and said China’s role was important in fighting terrorism, promoting peace, economic cooperation and forging regional consensus.

The Chinese foreign minister and Atmar also discussed President Ashraf Ghani’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Atmar referred to the problems facing major Chinese projects in Afghanistan, particularly the Miss Aynak scheme. He asked China to send a technical team to Afghanistan to work with relevant organs on finding a solution.

The two sides also conferred on continuation of trilateral meetings among Afghanistan, China and Pakistan. They agreed on holding the next foreign ministerial-level meeting in Kabul.
