Daesh bans telecom services in 4 districts of Kunar

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Daesh, or so called Islamic State (IS), rebels have banned telecom services in four districts of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Saturday.

Gauhar Sapi, a resident of Manogi district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants had restricted telephone services for the last one month, an issue that has caused residents serious problems.

Besides Manogi, the problem has also surfaced in Chapa Dara district, where people are obliged to go to other areas for making phone calls.He asked the government and telecom firms to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Yasir, a resident of Chapa Dara, complained telephone services had been off for last few weeks in his area.He blamed the militants, but did not say which rebel group was behind the problem.

Mohammad Madadzai, Kunar information technology director, confirmed Daesh insurgents had banned phone services in Manogai, Chapa Dara and parts of Sawakai and Noorgul districts.

He said efforts were underway with the help of local tribal elders and residents to resolve the issue. Telecom officials have been invited to come to Kunar to find a solution. The MTN was active in most of these areas but it has also suspended its services now.

Abdul Ghani Musamam,the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the phones services were suspended in some districts.He said the local administration was trying to resolve the problem.
