Paktika University’s hostel building remains incomplete

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Construction work on a hostel building for the University in southeastern Paktika province was stopped for unknown reasons soon after being launched two years ago, officials said Saturday.

Prof. Ali Jan Adil, Paktika University chancellor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that construction process of the university’s hostel was started by Lalizai Construction Company two years ago, but suspended it after some little work.

He said the building was a 28 million afghanis project bunded by the Ministry of Higher Educationinfo-icon. The contracted company just completed a 20 percent of the building and left the rest untouched, he said.

Adil said he had talked to the Ministry of Higher Education, the contractor, tribal elders and the local administration about the issue, but nothing happened.

“The budget allocated for this project by the ministry may be canceled due to its non-implementation”, he added.

Munawar Mubariz, a student of Paktika University, said university officials and local administration had failed to complete the hostel building in two years. He said only a 20 work on the building had been completed.

The contracted company should be taken to justice and interrogated for not completing the project, he said.

Paktika governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Rahman Ayaz, confirmed construction process of the hostel building had been stopped two years ago.

He said the local administration had shared the issue with the Ministry of Higher Education for finding a solution to it.

Pajhwok tried to contact the construction company for comment on the issue, but officials of the company refused to talk.

Founded six years ago, Paktika University has faculties of education and training, and agricultureinfo-icon where 1,742 students seek education.
