Civil society seeks extension in voter registration deadline

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Some political parties and civil societyinfo-icon activists have demanded extension in the time allocated to the voter’s registration process.

Holding a gathering in Kabul, the political workers and activists discussed the ongoing voter’ registration process and issued a resolution at the end.

Sangar Ameerzada, head of the Change and Reform Organization, on the behalf of others 17 parties and organizations, read out a joint resolution, which according to them, would benefit the ongoing registration process.

The resolution said the process of voter registration faced serious problems and many people, specially womeninfo-icon, might miss their registration as voters.

The activists asked the Population Registration Authority (PRA) and the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) to increase the registration centres and make them available to masses so that more people were able to first get their NIC and then register as voters.

The resolution also asked the Talibaninfo-icon to take part in the registration and participate in the upcoming elections to change the direction of the country for the better.

The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon and District Council’s election are scheduled for October 20 this year.
