5 public order police, 6 Taliban killed in Farah clash

FARA CITY (Pajhwok): Five public order policemen and six Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed during a clash in Balabuluk district of western Farah province, an official said on Tuesday.

Nasir Mehri, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed a security forces’ check-point in Nalak-Darstan village of the district late Monday night.

Five POP members and six attackers were killed and three others wounded during the ensuing gun-battle.

However, Sayed Ahmad, a resident of the area, put the death toll of the POP personnel at 12 with two others captured alive by Taliban militants.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed 17 POP personnel were killed and two others captured alive in the attack.

He confirmed injuring to two of their fighters, saying the rebels seized two Humvee vehicles, 20 weapons and overran the check-post.

But the governor’s spokesman denied the check-post had fallen to the Taliban militants.
