Dozens of trucks await Paktia border point’s reopening

Apr 24, 2018 - 21:41

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Local officials in southeastern Paktia province say Pakistaninfo-icon has closed the Paktia-Parachinar trade route, leaving dozens of trucks stranded on both sides of the border.

The crossing point was closed three days ago after Afghan forces conducted an operation in Dand-i-Patan district.

Abdul Naseer Alamyar, head of Paktia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said tens of loaded trucks remained stranded on both sides, inflicting two million afghnis loss on local traders.

Alamyar demanded the reopening of the road and added political tensions between the two countries should not affect trade ties.

Governor’s spokesman Abdullah Hasrat said after the successful operation conducted by Afghan forces, Pakistan closed the trade route to put pressure on Afghans.

He said the blockade had no impact on Afghanistaninfo-icon and stressed resolution to trade issues through talks. He said the issue was being talked about in Kabulinfo-icon and hoped the border crossing would be reopened soon.

Pakistan has not yet commented about the closure of the route, the shortest between the two countries.
