100 Georgian soldiers join Resolute Support Mission

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): One hundred Georgian soldiers are due in Afghanistaninfo-icon to join the NATOinfo-icon-led training mission, a news website reported on Wednesday.

The soldiers from the 11th and 21st battalions are equipped with bulletproof vests and helmets made by the State Military Scientific-Technical Centre Delta.

For the first time, Georgian soldiers are joining the NATO mission with home-made war equipment made in Georgia, according to the website Gerogia.ge. The cost of the equipment is over $2 million. 

“Today, we send off Georgia's seventh deployment of soldiers to NATO's Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan,” acting US ambassador Elizabeth Rood was quoted as saying.

The US had worked with Georgia in Afghanistan for the past eight years. “Your valor, sacrifice, and honor protect peace around the worldinfo-icon. We are in your debt.

“You work as ambassadors for peace far away from your families. We will never take your service for granted. We are truly brothers- and sisters-in-arms,” the diplomat said.
