Protest as 2 more Hazaras gunned down in Quetta

Protest as 2 more Hazaras gunned down in Quetta

Apr 29, 2018 - 09:53

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Two members of the Shia Hazara community have been shot dead in the capital of Pakistaninfo-icon’s southwestern Balochistan province, officials say.

Armed motorcyclists fired at the two men in the Jamaluddin Afghani Road area in Quetta on Saturday. “Both died on the spot after being shot in their heads,” one police officer said.

Superintendent of Police Abdullah Afridi said it was the second attack on the minority community within a week and third during the current month. Two Hazara members were killed in a similar attack a week back.

Police took the bodies to hospital. The victims of the latest sectarian assault were identified as Jaffar Ali and Muhammad Ali. The corpses were later transferred to their relatives.

Following the gun attack, members of the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP), traders’ committee and others staged a protest in the Meezan Chowk area of the troubled city.

HDP secretary general Raza Wakeel denounced the continued killing of Hazaras, blaming law-enforcement agencies for failing to protect the community.
