31 insurgents, 2 civilians killed in Ghazni operation

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): At least 31 Talibaninfo-icon militants and two civilians have been killed and scores others wounded during clashes in southern Ghazni province, officials said Satruday.

Mohammad Arif Noori, governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan forces engaged in clashes with Taliban militants in Rashidkhel, Chahardiwal, Barazo and Shaliz areas of Andar district and Arzo area of Ghazni city, the provincial capital on Friday night.

He said 31 Taliban militants and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were killed and 18 other rebels and one ANA soldier were wounded during the battle.

Noori said that two civilains including a woman were killed when a mortar shell hit a house in Barazo area of Andar district.

“It is unclear who fired the mortar shell but an investigation is underway,” he added.

Mohammad Asif, a resident of Shaliz area said that Taliban on Friday warned local people not to go out of their homes because they wanted to fight against Afghan forces.

“Clash and airstrikes were ongoing the whole day and night on Friday, but I don’t know about the casualties,” he said.

Taliban confirmed the clashes. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed that nine Afghan soldiers and one Taliban fighter were killed in Andar battle.

Ten other Afghan forces and three Taliban fighters were wounded in the fight, he said.

Mujahid claimed that Afghan forces targeted civlians’ houses in Sultan Bagh and Badwan areas of Andar district and killed two womeninfo-icon and four children and wounded five other children.

Andar is one of unstable district of Ghazni province.
