Senior Indian cricketers may skip Afghanistan Test

Senior Indian cricketers may skip Afghanistan Test

May 05, 2018 - 11:36

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Several senior Indian cricketers are expected to skip Afghanistaninfo-icon’s maiden Test match in Bengaluru, a media report said on Saturday.

Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah could miss the Test.

“Second-string players who were part of the team which won the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka could get the chance to play against the Afghans,” The Times of India (TOI) reported.

“Test specialists are set to travel to the UK for early acclimatisation. Everyone has hailed it as good planning,” the newspaper quoted an unnamed official source as saying.

The report suggested top cricketers would play with the likes of South Africa to steal the limelight instead of playing with Afghanistan

The Indian selection committee will name multiple Indian squads on May 8 for the one-off Test match against Afghanistan in June along with the team for the limited overs leg of the UK tour starting on June 27 in Dublin.
