Police thwarts possible suicide bombing in Kabul

Police thwarts possible suicide bombing in Kabul

May 07, 2018 - 13:46

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A suicide bomber was killed before he could reach his target in the upscale Shahr-i-Naw neighbourhood of Kabul on Monday, an official said.

Hashmatullah Stanikzai, Kabul police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the bomber wanted to detonate his explosive jacket near a blood donation tent in Park-i-Shahar at 11:30am.

But the bomber was positively identified by police and gunned down before he could execute his plan, according to the police official, who said no one else was harmed.

Salman Ali Dostzada, a civil societyinfo-icon activist, verified Stanikzai’s statement, saying they had set up a blood donation camp in the park.

He added the explosives attached to the bomber’s body went off after police fired at him. The bomber’s body was still lying at the site, the social worker continued.

But an eyewitness, who did not want to be named, claimed one civilian was superficially injured in the explosion.
