So far 6,000 Panjshiris turn out to register as voters

PARAKH (Pajhwok): So far around 6,000 people, with womeninfo-icon making 30 percent of them, have registered to vote in Oct 20 elections in central Panjshir province, an official said Monday.

Agha Sherin Niazi, general administrative and services director at the regional office of the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon), said as of now 6,000 people, including 1,800 of women, had registered as voters in all eleven voter registration centres.

“The population of the provincial capital is 30,000 people and until now 15,000 people should have registered,” he said, referring to the slow pace of the registration process.

But Saleh Mohammad, a resident of Parakh, said: “I don’t trust any politicians, for those we voted in the past did nothing for us, I am disappointed and don’t want to vote this time.”

Nakhod Bibi, 50, a resident of Keraman district, said she wanted to get Tazkera and register as voter but the process of Tazkera distribution was yet to begin in their area.

Mohammad Idrees Hakemi, head of the Population Registration Department (PRD), said some challenges delayed the distribution of Tazkera through mobile teams and the process would be launched today (Monday.)
