May 09, 2018 - 12:04

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Two police and two attackers were killed in Kabul’s 13th police district with a clearing operation ongoing in Shar-i-Naw area after a series of explosions rocked the central capital Wednesday, officials said.

A blast took place close to the 10th police district office in Shar-i-Naw area at 12pm and then six other blasts and gunfire followed.

Security forces have cordoned off the area. Kabul police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai told Pajhowk Afghan News that police had launched a search operation in Shahr-i-Naw but the assault in 13th police district ended with the killing of two assailants and two policemen.

An eyewitness, Fahim, said: “I was with my friends in the 100-family area when a white corolla stopped in the alley and three gunmen emerged from the car and destroyed the police office’s wall with rocket fire and entered via the hole.”

He said the firefight inside the police compound lasted for one hour and two of the three assailants were killed and their bodies remained inside the district office and the third attacker was still missing.

The vehicle which brought the gunmen is still at the site.

Public Healthinfo-icon Ministry spokesman Dr. Wahid Majroh said about six injured had been evacuated to hospital from the sites of explosions.

Daesh or so-called Islamic State group has claimed credit for the assaults that wounded at least six civilians.
