Students angry as varsity entry test delayed in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Around 4,000 high school graduates from nine districts had registered to sit the university entrance test in northern Faryab province, but the exam could not take place on the given date due to security problems.

All the aspirants gathered in Maimana City, the provincial capital, on Thursday waiting since morning for the arrival of a entry test delegation from Kabulinfo-icon.

They accused officials of negligence in not organizing the test on its schedule and said they braved serious security threats and paid high fares traveling to Maimana city to participate in the exam.

The graduates warned they would not participate in the exam if it was not organized today (Thursday._

Shamsullah, one of the test candidates, said they had been waited for more than two hours on Wednesday for his biometric registration and waited from 7am to 12pm today for the entry test exam. The entry test exam was scheduled for 7am on Thursday.

A girl, who wished not to be named, left the area where the entry exam was expected in protest.

She said she and one of her family members, accompanying her, started their trip from their district despite serious security problems and rented a room in Maimana city three days ago, but the entry test officials were still absent. She warned not to participate in the exam if it was not taken today.

Sayed Zariqullah Sadat, head of the entry test delegation, said he along with his other colleagues had been in Maimana for four days and started some initial works for the entry test.

He said the test was scheduled for Thursday morning but it was delayed as 40 members of the delegation were stuck in Andkhoi district of Faryab due to security problems.

The issue was shared with the local administration and then two helicopters were prepared to transfer the delegation members from the district, but the flights were cancelled due to bad weather, he said.

According to the entry test delegation, 3,935 high school graduates have registered for participating in the test from Maimana city and nine districts of Faryab. More than 40 percent of the candidates are girls and womeninfo-icon.

Governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Javid Baidar, said efforts to bring the delegation members to Maimana were underway.
