35 Afghan forces killed in overnight Farah raids

FARAH (Pajhwok): At least 35 security forces have been killed as a result of attacks on their posts by Talibaninfo-icon insurgents in northwestern Farah province last night, sources said on Friday.

A number of other security forces, including the public order police, were wounded in the near simultaneous attacks in Dorahi area of Bala Boluk district, the police compound of Lash wa Juwain district and security posts of Farah City, the provincial capital, last night.

Farah provincial council head Farid Bakhtawar told Pajhwok that the Taliban attacked public order police base in Dorahi area, killing 23 personnel, injuring two and taking away another three.

He said the police base had been captured by the rebels who confiscated all weapons and ammunition at the facility. However, on Friday morning the Afghan forces recaptured the base at 9pm.

In Farah City, the insurgents attacked and captured a police post in Ruj area, killing 11 police. Separately, one policeman was killed after the militants stormed the district police station in Lash wa Juwain district,

A resident of the district confirmed the attack which he said was pushed back with the help of local residents.

The above mentioned attacks were confirmed by a Taliban spokesman who claimed the fighters besides killing dozens of security forces had seized weapons and military vehicles including Humvee.
