Despite arrests, PTM set for show of strength in Karachi today

Despite arrests, PTM set for show of strength in Karachi today

May 13, 2018 - 10:29

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): After the arrest of its workers, the Pashtuninfo-icon Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) has been allowed to show its strength in Pakistaninfo-icon’s port city of Karachi.

The government asked the PTM to stage its rally in the Sohrab Goth area instead of Bagh-i-Jinnah in Karachi. The permission came soon after PTM alleged five of its workers had been picked up by law enforcers.

Mohsin Dawar, a PTM leader, confirmed they had been given permission to stage the rally at the ground near Al-Asif Square on certain conditions.

He accused the Sindh government of sabotaging the movement’s plan for a rally at Bagh-i-Jinnah on Saturday, when the ruling party in the province announced holding a meeting at the same venue on the same day.

As a result, the PTM had to delay its a rally at the venue to Sunday (today). Dawar said nine PTM workers and supporters were already ‘missing’ in the city.

PTM chief Manzoor Ahmed Pashteen was denied air travel from Islamabad and Lahore. However, he managed to reach Karachi by road on Saturday to attend the rally.
