Insurgents driven from Farah City, claim officials

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been driven from the capital of western Farah province where residents have reopened their shops, an official claimed on Wednesday.

Gen. Raz Mohammad Oryakhel, commander of the 207th Zafar Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants launched a coordinated attack on Farah City on Monday night and entered parts of the city at 5pm.

Eyewitnesses told Pajhwok the militants staged attacks on the provincial capital from four directions. According to reports, the rebels had captured the 3rd police district and stormed the intelligence department.

Najib Danish, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), also said the militants had been flushed out of Farah City and the situation was currently under control.

A resident of the area, Abdullah, confirmed the development, saying people were engaged in their daily work. He added the situation was limping back to normal.
