KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Chinese ambassador in Kabul on Wednesday hailed Afghanistaninfo-icon as a good neighbor of his country.

Liu Jinsong, during a recent meeting with Afghan media representatives in China, said his country considered Afghanistan as a friend.

China had made a lot of progress, the diplomat noted, saying the visiting Afghan journalists could see it. But still, he added, many Chinese were living in poverty but Beijing was striving to overcome the challenge.

The ambassador acknowledged that Xinjiang province was face with security issues, but his government was trying to control the situation there.

China never meddled in affairs of any country, especially in Afghanistan, he insisted. Beijing always respected the Afghan culture, traditions and religion, he said.

Jinsong hoped parliamentary and district council elections in Afghanistan would take place in a transparent manner and in a peaceful atmosphere.

China will host the next round of the strategic dialogue on cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistaninfo-icon at the end of this month in Beijing.

During the meeting, Afghan journalists called their trip to China as significant, saying they had witnessed a lot of development and improvement in the country.

On behalf of the delegates, Javed Hamim Kakar, senior editor at Pajhwok Afghan News, said China was Afghanistan’s only neighbour that assisted his country instead of meddling in its affairs.

He urged continued Chinese assistance to Afghanistan in different fields, especially in the media sector.
