PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Local residents have closed a school after it was designated as a voter registration center in central Logar province, an official said Saturday.

The school in a refugee township in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, was closed after students stopped attending classes.

Shapor Arab, provincial educationinfo-icon department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News IECinfo-icon designated the school as a voter registration and people closed it because they feared Talibaninfo-icon attacks.

The school closure deprived about 1,100 students of study, Arab said, adding he had shared the issue with the IEC.

Malik Shamsuddin, a tribal leader, said the school was closed one month ago. He said students had stopped going to the school after IEC set up a voter registration center there.

According to Shamduddin, the process has harmed the education sector.
