KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Around 816 internally-displaced persons (IDPs) and needy families on Sunday received food assistance in northern Kunduz province, an official said.

Mir AqaItibar, natural disaster management authority head for Kunduz, told Pajhwok Afghan News the families had been displaced from Qala-Zal district to the provincial capital due to recent Talibaninfo-icon attacks.

He said they surveyed 816 displaced families and Sunday started distributing the aid to then. Each family received five items of food  ---rice, flour, sugar, ghee and meat.

On the other hand, provincial council (PC) member Aminullah said the assistance could not meet needs of the families.

He said the IDPs had been living in bad situation in Kunduz City and urged the government to provide them more assistance.

Allah Murad, a recently displaced person, said they fled homes 10 days back and had since been living under the open sky and no one had so far assisted them.
A number of other displaced persons said the assistance could not meet their needs and urged the government to provide them more aid in the ongoing Ramadaninfo-icon month.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that ten days back, Taliban militants stormed the Qala-i-Zal district and later hundreds of families left their homes.
