Dostum may return in 10 days, says lawmaker

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Second Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum is expected to return to Kabul within next 10 days, a member of the Junbish-i-Islami leadership council said Sunday.

Dostum quietly left Kabul for Turkey last year in May, when his spokesman announced that the second VP traveled to Turkey for a medical checkup.

Mualvi Abdullah Qarleq, a lawmaker from northern Kunduz province in the Mesharano Jirgainfo-icon, told reporters here that President Ashraf Ghani during his last week trip to Turkey held a telephonic conversation with Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum.

Ghani and Dostum were expected to meet in Ankara but the president had to cut short his visit due increasing violence back at home.

However, the president talked with Dostum on the phone and asked him to return to the country soon.

Qarluq said some government institutions had been directed to take security arrangements for the return of the second vice president.

Dostum’s son Batour Dostum and head of the Junbish party, was among the delegation which accompanied the president on his trip to Turkey.

Ghani flew to Turkey last week to attend the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) on Palestine.
