TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Four protesters were wounded as a result of Afghan National Army (ANA) forces firing in the Khawaja Bahauddin district of northern Takhar province on Monday, an official said.

Tens of residents staged protest in the Shour Toghi area accusing the government for not compensating the people for the losses they suffered as a result of heavy floods.

The protesters blocked the road from Yangi Kala and Durqad district leading to the Taloqan, the provincial capital.

A protester Asadullah Momand told Pajhwok Afghan New: “We protested in order to get government assistance after the flood destroyed our homes and standing crops.”

Najmuddin, another protester said: “Army soldiers fired on us, some protesters wounded, we want the soldiers who fired at protesters to be punished and the road would remain close until our demand is met.”

Governor Spokesman Sunnatullah Taimour confirmed the incident and added ANA convoy was going through the area and the protester blocked the road on the convoy thus soldiers opened fire at the protesters.

He said four protesters had been injured in the incident who had been evacuated to the hospitals and their healthinfo-icon condition was stable.
