KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Sixty-one military generals retired in compliance with a special presidential decree during a ceremony at the Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Monday.

The decree was read at the MoD special ceremony in which 61 military general retired in the second phase of the special retirement process, a statement from the MoD said.

Army Chief Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali praised the role and work of the retiring generals in rehabilitation and training of the country’s military.

“Your performance and work for stability and security of the country would be remembered by the history and the people of Afghanistaninfo-icon,” he told the retired generals.

Defence Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami said: “Retirement is a normal process applied on civil and military personnel after a specific period of their service, the process would continue in line with the demand of time, international community and political leadership of the country.”

He hailed services of the retired generals and added some retired officials who had the capability of work in civilian organs would be appointed as governors, deputy governors, analysts and advisors at the advisory board of national security so that the Afghan army leadership could benefit from their expertise.

It is worth mentioning that President Ashraf Ghani signed the retirement of 162 military generals last year.
