MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have overrun four areas of the Grezwan district of northwestern Faryab province, a local official said on Monday.

Mullahinfo-icon Faizullah Selab, the district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants had captured Ghalbian, Deh Miran, Takhara and Qala-i-Turdi areas.

The localities collapsed as a result of a coordinated attack late Sunday night. He warned the district might fall to the rebels if reinforcements were not rushed there.

The assailants also torched several check-posts of a pro-government militia after overrunning the areas, he said, adding the district centre was also on brink of collapse.
