Rightwing party threatens to close Pak-Afghan highway

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A right-wing political party has warned of closing the Pak-Afghan highway on May 22 (Tuesday).

Led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the Jamiat Ulemainfo-icon-i-Islam issued the threat to protest the likely merger of tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Party leaders Mufti Abdul Shakoor, Mufti Ijaz Shinwari and Jihadinfo-icon Shah denounced the expected merger as an international conspiracy.

Dead-set against the plan, the party will stage a demonstration in Landikotal against ignoring the will of the tribal people and imposing decisions on them.

Also on Sunday, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rahman announced his party had decided to part ways with the ruling Pakistaninfo-icon Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
