Ghani underlines bias-free education environment

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani says environmentinfo-icon at educational institutes should be free of bias. He stressed more opportunities for girl students.

Ghani made the remarks during a meeting with university and schoolteachers on Wednesday evening, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

Dr. Najibullah Khwaja Omari, minister of higher educationinfo-icon, Dr. Mirwais Balkhi, acting education minister, and a number of teachers attended the Iftari at the Presidential Palace.

Farzana Rozmajo, the Kabul university teacher and Huria Karimi, the Naswan-i- Bi Bi Mahro high school talked on behalf of others.

The educators thanked the president’s support for the education sector and urged an improvement in building teachers’ capacity and constructing a township for them.

 “Our focus is on in vesting in human capital; teachers play a very important role in the development of education. You bring huge changes to lives of youth, especially girls. Education is significant for girls,” Ghani said.

The president pointed out the environment at educational institutes should be fair and free of prejudice. Girls should be provided with more opportunities for higher education, he added.

He acknowledged the issue of housing was indeed important for teachers and more work would be done in this regard.
