MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): After a decade-long year delay, construction work on a 50-bed hospital has been launched in Tagab district of central Kapisa province, an official said on Monday.

A number of the district’s residents claimed that the hospital’s foundation stone was laid more than 10 years ago, but due some security and other issues, the works had to be postponed.

Hajji Ghulam Nabi, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the hospital was being constructed in the district center bazaar where some figures claimed owning the land and as well some strongmen were also involved in the issue.

He said work on the French government-funded hospital had to be delayed due to the conflict and others issues. Local residents have to take their patients to the provincial hospital, Mahmood Raqi, Panjshir, Kabulinfo-icon and Nangarhar provinces.

Mirwais, another resident of the district, said people injured due to the war in the district were taken to other provinces and many had lost their lives before reaching hospital.

Mohammad Qasim Safi, deputy administrative chief of the district, said the hospital was a huge hope for local residents.

He said now work on the hospital had been resumed under watchful eyes of residents and tribal elders.

Project engineer, Waheedullah Safi, said the hospital construction work would take 18 months to complete with funds from the French government.

The provincial public hospital director Dr. Shoib Danish said the French government had provided 1.5 million Euros for projects including the Tagab district’s hospital.

He said construction of the hospital would resolve healthinfo-icon issues of southern localities’ residents.
