KUNDUZ/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Two pro-government militia commanders have been killed in northern Faryab and Kunduz provinces, local officials said on Friday.

The slain individuals included Afghan Local Police commander Azizullah Nasiri, who was killed in the morning in Surchar Khab area of Kunduz City, said fourth police district chief Sher Ahmad.

He said Nasiri was on his way to his farm fields along with his bodyguards when ambushed by Talibaninfo-icon militants. The commander was killed along with two guards. A third guard was wounded in the incident.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for Nasiri’s assassination.

In Faryab, a pro-government militia leader was killed in Sherin Tagab district by Taliban insurgents. The commander, Mullahinfo-icon Karam Begzad, was a key member of the Junbishi Islami party and had been fighting against the Taliban over the past few years, said Abdul Karim Yurush, the Sherin Tagab district chief.
