More Czech troops to be deployed to Afghanistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Czech parliament has supported a surge in the number of military personnel in Afghanistaninfo-icon and other international missions.

Despite protests from the Communist Party, the lower house approved government plans to increase the number of troops on foreign missions on Friday.

As a result of the lower house decision, Sputnik reported, Czech troop numbers in Afghanistan, Iraq and other regions. The Senate approved the move on May 17.

Twenty-nine lawmakers voted against the proposal, which was supported by 140 MPs.

The Czech Defense Ministry is now authorised to deploy 806 troops to international military missions in Afghanistan and elsewhere, boosting the numbers to 1,081 in 2018 and to 1,191 in 2019.

As many as 140 more servicemen will be deployed to Afghanistan, increasing the number of troops in the country to 390. They will be based in Kabul, Parwan, Logar and Herat.
