MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani’s recent visit to northern Balkh province was “ineffective, exhibitory and a power show”, says Provincial Council (PC) chief Mohammad Afzal Hadid.

Addressing reporters here on Saturday, Hadid said: “The president doesn’t trust the elders and representatives of Balkh therefore he did not meet them during his three days trip.”

Three days back, the president arrived in Balkh province and inaugurated a 220-kilovote substation in Khulm district and an electricity supply project in Mamural district.

The president also addressed military officials, families of martyred and injured security personnel and people affected by flood and natural disasters.

Hadid said: “The purpose of the president’s recent trip was to show power and campaign, the president went to the Shaheen Military Corps and did not hear from local representatives showing the president does not trust lawmakers and public representatives. He is even doubtful of the election process.”

Hadid said the president should have met local representatives who would have informed him about people’s real problems and challenges.

The Presidential Palace has not yet commented about Hadid’s allegation.
