Heavy casualties inflicted on Taliban in recent Ghazni clashes

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Fifty-one security personnel and around 400 Talibaninfo-icon have been killed and injured in recent clashes in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Sunday.

Addressing reporters here, Governor Abdul Karim Mateen said the Taliban planned to capture some districts but were unable to implement it.

“Every time when the Taliban launched attack it was repulsed and the insurgent suffered heavy casualties,” he said.

Mateen claimed around 400 Taliban have been killed and injured as a result of recent clashes.

Maj. Gen. Shour Gul, commander of the 203rd Tandar Military Corps, said the Taliban planned to overrun Ghazni province but they were unsuccessful.

“The Taliban launched multiple attacks but security forces beaten back their attacks and inflicted them heavy casualties,” he said.

Deputy Police Chief Col. Farydon Mashal 19 policemen have been killed and 32 others injured as a result of the Taliban and Security forces clash.

“Military also suffered casualties during recent clashes but they don’t give us information in this regard,” he said.

Taliban rejected Ghazni officials’ claims. The group’s Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Taliban did not suffer heavy casualties in recent Ghazni clashes.

He oppositely claimed saying Security forces suffered more during recent clashes in Ghazni.
