131prisoners released from Nangarhar jail

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): More than 130 prisoners, including seven children and a woman, were released from the central prison in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, an official said.

Nangarhar Governor Hayatullah Hayat told Pajhwok Afghan News that 131 inmates were freed and jail sentences of another 111 prisoners reduced in compliance with a presidential decree issued on the Mujahidin’s victory day.

He said jail was a place of learning and reform for prisoners and hoped the freed individuals would live as skilled people in their societyinfo-icon.

The provincial court of appeals chief Ahmad Khalid Orya said the presidential decree was for prisoners whose jail terms were less than five years.

Oversight chief at the attorney office, Mohammad Asad Safi, told the former prisoners they could name any judge if he had asked them for money.

The freed prisoners expressed their happiness and thanked jail officials for their attitude and promised not to indulge in any unlawful activity in future.
