KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghanistaninfo-icon Fallen Veterans Memorial in Canada’s Fort McMurray has been vandalized by unidentified hooligans, a news report says.

The Edmonton Journal quoted the legion branch in Waterways as saying paint was thrown at the base of the monument late on Monday.

“Soldiers, and the legions that serve them, do not associate themselves with any political viewpoint nor profess opinion on where our country sends us to do its bidding,” branch president Pat Duggan said.

A shell of a decommissioned LAV III, the monument arrived at the legion in October and was unveiled that month. A plaque acknowledges the 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces personnel who served in Afghanistan.

It also recognises the 162 Canadians who died during the mission of bringing peace and freedom to the people of Afghanistan.

The LAV III served as an eight-wheeled armoured workhorse for the Canadian troops during their mission in Afghanistan. At least 13 vehicles were destroyed and 159 damaged.
