Beijing renews call for Afghan peace negotiations

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): China has once again underlined the imperative of a negotiated settlement of the ongoing conflict in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

“China always believes the military means cannot solve the Afghan problem and hopes all parties will move in the opposite direction,” the foreign ministry’s spokesperson said.

At a media briefing in Beijing on Friday, Hua Chunying stressed the need for early talks to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The Associated Press of Pakistaninfo-icon quoted her as saying that China commended the Afghan government’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire with the Talibaninfo-icon.

Beijing had consistently backed the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process and remained ready to play a constructive role in promoting such efforts, she said.
