JALALABAD (Pajhowk): At least 15 people, mostly civilians, were injured during an attack on the Educationinfo-icon Department in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, an official said.

Nangarhar police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Senayee Stanikzai told reporters in Jalalabad that three Daesh or (Islamic State) rebels wanted to execute a bloody attack in the limits of 2nd police district.

One of the attackers blew himself up and the two were shot dead by security forces, he said, adding the attackers’ explosives-laden corolla was defused and security forces confiscated heavy and light weapons as well.

The police chief said a technical team defused the car-bomb parked between the medical faculty building and the education department.

Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 14 civilians including employees of the education department and one policeman were injured in the attack. They were said to be in stable condition, he added.

With Daesh staying silent about the raid, the Nangarhar police chief blamed the attack on the IS because the group has threatened to target girls schools in the province.
