18 ANA soldiers killed in attack on Badakhshan post

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A public representative on Wednesday said the Talibaninfo-icon killed 18 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and captured their post during an overnight attack in northeastern Badakhshan province.

Abdullah Naji, a provincial council member, told Pajhwok Afghan News that hundredss of Taliban insurgents stormed the ANA security post in Sheikh Walol area of Juram district on Tuesday night.

He said the security post was lost and 18 ANA soldiers were killed in the attack as well as the militants seized all weapons and ammunition.

Twelve Taliban, rebels including foreigners, were also killed in the battle, he added, saying the security post remained with the Taliban until Wednesday morning but it was recaptured when reinforcements reached the area.

Meanwhile, Badakhshan operations commander, Col. Imaminfo-icon Ali Azizi, confirmed the brief fall of the security post to Taliban but said there were no exact figures of casualties from the battle.

The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
