KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Ahead of their debut Test against India, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has given Afghanistaninfo-icon to some valuable tips.

Deliver the 6th Pataudi Memorial Lecture in India, Pietersen said: “There are many others infinitely better qualified to describe the social, political and cultural impact of that sporting leap.”

In his opinion, the Briton said, a hard-fought five-day Test match remained the greatest all-round challenge in modern-day sportinfo-icon.

Indian media outlets quoted him as calling the Test a challenge that was demanding both mentally and physically and requiring the highest levels of concentration of technique, determination and stamina.

“How do you ensure that Rashid Khan and his fellow stars in commit to Test cricket? How do you push them towards a career where they truly care about the five-day game?” he asked.

Pietersen, the first non-India to deliver the lecture, hailed Afghanistan as an incredible side that had proved that great players could move mountains - and inspire populations.

The ex-English skipper stressed Test players must be paid as well over five days as they were over five hours of 20-20 cricket. “You can’t blame a player for seeking financial security… The days of amateurism are gone.”
