KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A third inquiry against Australia’s special forces in two years would conducted by a former spymaster, the government in Canberra said.

Amid war crime allegations against its commando units in Afghanistaninfo-icon, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) said the third would be conducted by David Irvine, then head of Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.

He would suggest ways of further improvements in the regiments since culture and governance reforms were implemented in 2015, the department said.

A 2016 report revealed by Fairfax Media on June 8 accused the Australian troops of ‘unsanctioned and illegal’ violence during operations in Afghanistan.

The report led to a second and continuing probe into special forces actions in Afghanistan by the Inspector-General of the ADF, according to AFP.

“The review will assist army leadership to determine the effectiveness of reform initiatives and identify whether additional improvements are required,” ADF said in a statement.
