KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Five Afghan cricketers will be in focus as their country begins its debut against India in Bengaluru today (Thursday), says an Indian newspaper.

The Indian Express reported all eyes would be fixed on Mujeebur Rahman, Mohammad Shahzad, Zahir Khan, Rashid Khan and skipper Asghar Stanikzai

Off-spinner Mujeeb stood out in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League, where the Kings XI Punjab purchased him for Rs 4 crore. He claimed 14 wickets in 11 matches, including Virat Kohli’s.

Opener Shahzad was hailed as a crowd entertainer with his aggressive batting style. He scored 1,582 runs at an average of 54.55 in 20 matches, including an unbeaten 214 in the fourth innings to chase a target of 494 runs against Canada in an Inter-Continental Cup match.

Left-arm bowler Zahir Khan, 19, played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. However, he missed the event due to an injury. In seven first-class matches, he has bagged 34 wickets.

Rashid hogged headlines because of his spin wizardry in the T-20 series against Bangladesh. While defending 9 runs in the last over, he proved his mettle and won the match for his side.

Stanikzai, expected to display responsible batting, is an experienced campaigner, with food staying power at the crease. He has made 1,421 runs in 23 first-class games, including five tons.
