58 detained over electoral offensives countrywide: AGO

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Nearly 60 people arrested over about 24 electoral offenses, including forgery, are being investigated by the Attorney General Office (AGO), an official said on Thursday.

Jamshid Rasouli, AGO spokesman, told a press conference here 58 individuals had been arrested by security organs over various electoral crimes and their cases would be investigated.

Without disclosing the detainees’ identity, he said most of them had links with potential candidates for the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon and district councils.

The crimes were committed in Laghman, Nangarhar, Herat, Kandahar, Faryab, Kunduz, Khost, Paktia, Kabul and Sar-i-Pul provinces, he added.

The elections are due on October 20.
