Ghani extends ceasefire for another 10 days

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has extended the unilateral ceasefire with Talibaninfo-icon for another 10 days, a statement from Presidential Palace said on Monday.

The decision was made during a meeting of National Security Council, the statement said, adding the participants strongly condemned the terrorist attack in eastern Nangarhar and extended condolences and sympathies to the victim’s families.

Security officials briefed the president about the security measures of different provinces and said security forces were ready to defend country of any attack.

Earlier, President Ghani declared a truce with the Taliban from the 27th of Ramadaninfo-icon till the fifth of Edul fitr.

Ghani extended the truce with the Taliban following an initial ceasefire observed by both sides in the Eid festival. Taliban and security forces were embracing each other and talking selfies with citizens.

However, dozens of people were killed and wounded in Nangarhar suicide attacks. Taliban announced end of the ceasefire.
