India committed to Afghanistan’s uplift: envoy

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): India’s ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon Vinay Kumar has reaffirmed New Delhi’s support to Kabulinfo-icon in areas of infrastructure development and others.

The envoy was speaking at a ceremony marking inauguration of a 2.8 kilometre road construction in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.

India is providing $3 million for the road starting from Ustad Kahalilullah Square till the airport’s terminal.

Kumar termed Afghanistan-India friendship as historic which he said further strengthened in the past 17 years.

The envoy said every year tens of Afghan students travelled to Indian for educationinfo-icon, manifesting ‘strong friendship between the two countries.’

Balkh Governor Ishaq Rahquzar thanked the Indian government for its cooperation with Afghanistan. He said the Indian envoy assured him of more development projects in the province.

Kumar said India proved through uplift projects that it was Afghanistan’s ‘real friend.’
