Logar residents devote more land to schools

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Some residents of the Azra district in central Logar province have dedicated another 7.5 acres of land to 15 schools to be newly constructed, an official said on Wednesday.

Shapoor Arab, the provincial education department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News tribal elders and other residents were motivated to offer 7.5 acres of land for construction of 15 new schools.

“We lacked land in the past to build schools, but the issue is resolved after these people gave us this land worth 10 million afghanis.”

He added four high schools, two middle schools, eight primary schools and a seminary would be constructed on the dedicated land.

Two years back, residents of the same district handed over their 11 acres of land to the authorities for construction of school buildings.

Arab said a commission had been tasked with finding land for schools which were named after the land-givers.

Abdul Wali Wakil, a provincial council (PC) member and resident of Azra district, confirmed the development. “It shows our people know the importance of schools.”

There are a total of 31 schools in Azra district and among them 14 schools are operating sans buildings.
