KANDAJAR CITY (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon could enter Kandahar City, the capital of southern Kandahar province, and district centers without carrying arms, police announced on Wednesday, after President Ashraf Ghani extended the ceasefire for another 10 days.

Deputy police chief for Kandahar Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Atrafi told Pajhwok Afghan News allowing the Taliban to come to the city and district centers without arms was offered to ensure implementation of the extension in ceasefire.

“If the Taliban want to visit their relatives’ homes, meet individuals and officials, they can come without the fear to be chased,” he said.

He said a joint commission of police and army had decided that whenever the Taliban wanted to come to the city they should put their weapons down and their representatives would be present at the site.

The Taliban have not reacted to the latest peace move, but common people widely welcomed the decision.

President Ashraf Ghani announced a 10-day extension in the ceasefire with the Taliban, but the group resumed attacks soon after their ceasefire time ended on the right of the third day of Eidul Fitr.
